Quote of the moment: "no hesitation in using your company again & recommending to friends." PW
All our LEDs are for 12v-Automotive and will cope with the normal voltage range found there (i.e. 11-15v approx). Replacement 'bulbs' can be used in automotive applications and also in domestic 12v DC lamps. Just added - a small selection of automotive base LEDs for habitation & chassis use.
This is a very long and rather slow page but we thought you'd enjoy the wide choice of lighting! There is quite a lot of choice so you might want to browse right down to start with just to get an overall view of what's on offer - down-lighters, spots / wall lights, reading lights, ceiling lights, some touch control, bulbs, & more!
LED Lighting to banish flat batteries! Customer feedback ... "I replaced all the halogen lamps on the Swift with LEDs sourced from motorcaravanning. The old halogens were not all that bright, I suppose you could call the colour temperature warm and friendly, and they consumed over 15amps when they were all switched on. Theoretically that wouldn't take long to flatten the leisure battery. With the LED's, they are brighter and consume in total, just over 1.5 amps in total - as measured at the battery. Obviously not all the lights are used at the same time but even 2 or 3 conventional awning lights at 21w each can put one hell of a dent in the battery in an evening 'blethering' over a bbq. The LED replacements are amazing. Well worth it". HC. They really do offer significant power saving - off/shoulder seasons especially!
"The little spotlights (28416 left), which I ordered yesterday, have just arrived. They seem very nicely made and are perfect for their intended application – as reading lamps on a yacht. Thank you for your excellent service". PH:
Confusing Watts: Within the context of our 12v LEDs for motorhomes, figures like 10W & 20W are 'halogen equivalent' i.e. approximately the same brightness as a 10W conventional 12v G4 bulb. Figures like 0.6W, 0.9W, 1.3W, 1.9W are the actual energy consumption of the LED and may be used to calculate amps used. It is quite normal for LED units to consume around 1/10th of the power for a similar light output. LEDs are an evolving technology so exact specs and relationships change over time, the MR11 and MR16 replacement types are now quite a bit brighter than when they were first introduced, the Frilight versions are now 1.3W & 2.5W actual so you'd expect brightness to be well above the old 5W & 10W replacements!
Polarity? Yes - unlike incandescent bulbs - LEDs are polarity sensitive and only work one way round. Just to add to that the wring colours are not always consistent so any 'duds' should be connected up the other way round to test! The other thing that causes no-glow, and sometimes light flickering on and off, is low voltage, check your wiring & connectors and don't 'daisy-chain' multiple LEDs in series!
Lighting of the future here now: "The LED lighting market is predicted to grow annually The change to LED is mainly cost driven in homes but extended battery life is the big issue for motorcaravanners. The Frilight range of surface mounted, stylish, switched spotlights is proving increasingly popular and can be used wall or ceiling mounting, albeit with a slightly restricted movement for ceiling mounted. Movement is as sketch right - i.e. a fairly wide one-sided arc starting from a straight down position.
Chrome/Plastic? Please note that on many modern fittings 'chrome' or 'silver' = a chromed/silver finish quite probably on top of plastic. The chrome finish is 'polished' while he silver finish is 'matt'. It is normal now for technical plastics to be used in light fittings where they offer advantages in performance, electrical characteristics and that perennial motorhome concern weight. All this is paralleled in modern electric drills, hairdryers and electric kettles of course! These products are not clones nor cheap Chinese or grey imports but quality items from major international companies like Dometic, Frilight & Bartolacci-Tecnoled and are sold all over Europe including to major motorhome, luxury boat and modern house builders.

New from 2012: An Expanded Range including SMD Spots, Strips and
SMD LEDs have always been highly regarded but used to be expensive. With the technology moving on we can now bring these to you at a sensible price. SMD lights are delivered in Warm White as standard, and can also provide a 120° beam of light, so can light up a larger area than the older Super Bright (45°) LEDs. We also offer just a few 'Power LED' lights, these have a higher power absorption so generate some heat and need the incorporated dissipating bodies. They come integrated voltage regulators, so guarantee light even with the irregular voltage seen in leisure vehicles. Power LEDs are a perfect replacement for Halogen and some say for Fluorescent overhead lights. Our own view though is that overhead fluorescents should be left just where they are for only occasional use and new LED units should be added lower down for much more localised light to read maybe and to prepare and cook food. More lights may be needed but the light quality is then much better - as now common in the home. Buy Below >>>
Italian Lighting design: Exciting new products for the new year. Already causing quite a stir in new vehicles LED lighting is one of the new 'must haves' in motorhomes. Our warm white LEDs use a fraction of the electricity of conventional bulbs, produce virtually no heat, and lend themselves to new compact designs so are both stylish and battery-saving - it's not hard to see why they are becoming so popular. It's hard to make exact comparisons with halogen lights because the quality of the light is very different but a 16 LED light might seem equivalent to something approaching a 10W halogen unit but uses just 0.65W i.e. less than 1/10th of the electricity - so no more worries about lights flattening batteries then! Lots of people say it is easier to read with a LED spotlight because of higher contrast Buy Below >>>

New Technology: Our LED Lighting range offers both LED replacement 'bulb' units for existing fittings and complete units with typical Italian style. All give a warm to neutral white light which is naturally focused by using LEDs with a 45º diffusion angle, this gives more intensity just where it's needed most for easy reading and safe cooking. Combined with our really cool range of fixed, bendy or swivelling spotlight designs, and our amazing swivelling linear lights, this makes for great improvements in usefulness with real style and all while saving your battery at the same time, terrific! Also in 'linear' designs we offer several exceptional products for both interior and exterior use, not least the switched 'AVL' units and also the Fiamma Awning and Garage lights found much further below.
Cool New Product! LED Mirror: Similar to some OEM fitting in newer deluxe motorhomes a decent size mirror with 2 rows of 9 LEDs on either side for excellent illumination of the user - and in some style. You can even 'tile' them for extra effect. Fitting vertically or horizontally while maintaining the lines of LEDs seems to look the best for most applications. Usual mirror mounting systems with clips or adhesive are suitable and the small wiring is easily hidden behind the mirror. Dimensions: 430mm x 490mm x 3mm. Buy Below >>>
Also recently added: a. Two new Dometic spotlights N28219 & N28221 that use the MR16 LED 'bulb' units - so you can change them yourself for visual effect. You can swap the cool-neutral-white originals for warm or strongly coloured ones for permanent or temporary effect or atmosphere - can be very effective if you have several dotted about using different colours! (Our other LED lamps have permanently wired-in long-life LEDs). b. Automotive base LEDs for use around the chassis Ba15s / Ba15d especially.
Colour Balance: All our LEDS (except Lockerlite and effect lights) are warm white to neutral white and not the blue light as seen in battery and early leds*. I'd say ours are more sunny-daylight-white than that rather over orange-tungsten-warm of lower powered conventional bulbs. I also think the few ultra warm LEDs I've seen are rather unpleasant, not at all cosy like traditional tungsten but more like the new energy saving household lamps that many people find so disappointing. All in all we are very happy to recommend this range. Curiously when halogen was introduced everyone wanted the cooler cleaner halogen light but now we have that clean light with LEDs, old ideas about them being blue persist and we get some requests to match the older tungsten! For Info: Developments in the technology mean some units now come with fewer leds but the same light output, these often have a modified warming filter too, as with SMDs and our horizontal G4 replacements. An older 12-LED G4 card is shown right compared with a 20p. Later cards might have 3 or 6 LEDs and the disk is typically about 30mm x 23mm. This is fast moving technology so manufacturers are changing specs all the time but the trend is towards slightly smaller cards.
* For those who know 'Kelvin', many early LEDs were >7000K, neutral is around 6000-6500K (daylight), and warm is around the 3000-3500K of tungsten-halogen while some lower power tungsten is maybe 2800K. These lower figures are usually achieved on LEDs using filters so in terms of lighting quality not all 3000K lights look the same - it also depends on the colour quality of the filter so beware of cheap imitations with bluish or even greenish and even rather poorly focussed diffused light!!

Number of LEDs = Brightness? Unfortunately it isn't that simple, it also depends on the spec of the LEDs themselves. As an example one supplier offers three versions of their pivot lights. The brightness specs in lux at 1 metre are 12-LED 20-lux, 21-LED 36-lux, but the 9-LED is 52-lux! We describe that 9-LED as 'super bright'. Note that super bright LEDs are often neutral white at c5000K while our normal LEDs are warm white at 3000-3400K. (The older very bluish ones were >6500K often as high as 9000K). So in the end it all comes down to good design for purpose rather than just the number of LEDs.
Frilight offer these specs for some of their old and new 12v units and cards - you'll see that brightness isn't directly related to the number of LEDs. Where no Lumens are quoted compare Watts. We used to say SMDs were more powerful with fewer LEDs but with new generations of SMD that has moved on again.
LED Effect Lighting: New for 2012 12v LED Dot Lights and Strip Lights in white and blue versions. Can look best with both colours used side by side. Please ignore any red in the illustrations - they are made but not available here as yet. Both are fed with normal 12v, the Dot lights are 0.25W and simply popped into a predrilled hole. They are 10mm dia with a 13mm dia face and require 20mm back distance plus a bit for the wires to turn. The 12v Strip-lights come in 12 LED 30cm 0.9W modules,10mm wide x 2mm thick, that can be daisy-chained together with extra connectors, the first module is connected to the 12v via a pin connector + 'cable' unit.
Fitting & brightness info: • The direct bulb replacements MR11 and MR16 are straightforward plug-ins in a near identical envelope. The revised 2010-on versions are MR16 24-LED to replace 10W and MR11-6m LED to replace the smaller 5W units. NB: These are not downgrades - the lower number of LEDS these days represent improved technology! • This applies to many units now, several units that used to carry 12 or 18 LEDs • The G4 replacements are slightly more complicated because a G4-fit LED is necessarily bigger than the miniature G4 bulb it replaces, it is still plug-in of course, but now in comes two versions - 'horizontal' for use only where the bulb comes in from the side of the reflector and 'vertical' to replace a central bulb positioned vertically. Their effective brightness varies with the light fitting itself because many fittings were designed to control, emphasise or diffuse the point light source of a G4 bulb ... but LEDS are multiple and dispersed light sources so may behave differently depending on the design of the light fitting and any cover. Also please bear in mind that traditional G4s come in 5W, 10W, 20W and 35W ratings but the LED G4s below replace either 5W or 10W or 20W bulbs, no leds will mimic the brightness of 35W units. To replace high power ceiling lights like these we recommend using multiple units or maybe the N28409. Constant improvements in the technology mean it can be hard to compare apparent brightness simply by the number of included LEDS, for example our G4 replacement has fewer this year but gives exactly the same brightness as before! Quoted lamp dimensions are overall but the recessed N28382 for example requires a cut-out of about 52mm dia and a back space of maybe 20mm. LED bulb replacements for G4,MR11 & MR16 are simple plug-ins and fit into the same space as before. Buy Below >>>

LED Problems? We don't hear of many but the vast majority are easily solved. Don't Light / DOA: Unlike halogens LEDs are polarity sensitive so if they don't light and you know there are volts there, the most likely solution is to just reverse the wires. By the way don't make assumptions about the meaning of specific wire colours, if marked +/- follow that at least initially but many are not marked. Flickering: flickering is usually a sign of low volts so the most common solution is to check & rectify poor connections and joints or inadequate wiring. Very long thin wires might cause excessive voltage drop as would wiring in series rather than parallel, in the latter case you might see progressive deterioration along the daisy-chain.
