Introduction and Advice: If you get lost here please do ask us for help in specifying a room kit to suit your vehicle. The number of possible room variants is quite large and getting the room spec wrong or the wrong room components on the wrong awning really will develop into a major headache - we know, we're asked to sort many out!  So if needed please do to ask for help and advice over rooms - it's one of the services that sets us apart!  Do read on first to see if we've provided all you need to work it out yourself but do email any questions using one of the email links above or below.  Please note 'to fit MH XYZ' doesn't work, you do need to collect together accurate information about your own awning code, awning length & mounted height/s!

Advice on what you need to know and how the wider system work is set out below. We repeat the essential parts of this on our individual shopping pages - to save you going backwards and forwards to check things!

What do I need to know?  First obtain some information about your awning and how it is mounted. You'll find information about your awning model, colour and box length on the internal labels, the one on the back of the front rail is easiest to read but there is another with a long bar code number in the back of the box somewhere. Next you need to do some measuring so arm yourself with a decent steel tape plus steps/hop-up and your reading glasses(!) and measure the 'mounted heights'. These are taken from ground to the underside* of the mounted awning box, take one measurement at each end, they often differ even when the awning looks level!  Finally and not always needed but while on those steps you might as well complete the job ... Finally erect the awning fully but at the minimum front height to allow the caravan door to open freely and fully without fouling and then measure the "front height". This is taken from ground to the underside of the front rail. All this information will be used to ensure you get the right room fit for your particular vehicle including roof slope, we will need / ask for this info when you place an order.  *The underside of the mounted box used to measure mounted height for wall mounted awnings is fairly obvious but for roof mounted awnings like 6300 / 6200 / 6002 / 9200 it is the underside of the front lip that is used as the reference point.  PS: If you have to measure rather than read, length = box length not fabric length.

Notes: 1. Residence is only for flat sided vehicles, for curved sided vehicles like the Ducato Van you must use a Safari-Room or Panorama or Quickfit instead. 2. G1/G2/G3 are not mix and match, you can't partially upgrade older rooms, you do have to have G3 sides with a G3 front (& transformation kit for old awnings).

Residence is only for flat sided vehicles, for curved sides as on Ducato & Sprinter Vans you must use a Safari-Room, for Ducato there is a dedicated Ducato Safari-Room or Panorama or Quickfit.

Do I need any or all of the options?  A basic day room is simply a front and pair of sides. To make it fit you must choose the right awning model length and mounted height. To make a more comfortable and habitable room you might want more. Why a hold-down? To stop the room acting like a kite, it provides extra holding down power combined with elastic shock absorption to stop a blustery breeze from working the securing pegs out of the ground. We recommend the new sides kit - and also some of those screw-in dog anchors. Why a Windslip / Skirt?  It stops draughts, rabbits and cats from entering the room from under the 'van. We supply ours with glue-on fixing rail as long as ordered with a room. Wheelcover? Covers the wheel zone to stop draughts getting round the wheel and through the wheel arch. Front Connection Profiles? Figure of 8 plastic strips to join a front sunblocker e.g. to the supplied cord at the top of the Residence front panel. Why Curtains? Mostly for privacy for night use and also for changing but you might want to hide any camping equipment left there during the day. Why deluxe Storage Bags? More robust than the standard supply and not only tidy storage but also help to protect the room from accidental scuffs and other damage. Why a Breathable Groundsheet? To give some extra comfort over bare grass and to protect the grass from the effects of the groundsheet for as long as possible. Do I have to have the full kit? No you can opt for any combination you want. Why are no Curtains included in your prices this year? Thule's new curtains cost more than the ones previously supplied so some customers are opting to make their own using the included runners, the choice is yours. Why can't I fit this room to my Ducato / Sprinter  etc Van Conversion?  Residence is designed to fit to flat sided vehicles, it just doesn't seal to the curved sides on modern panel vans nor to curved sided Hobby Motorhomes.  Buy below >>>

Other Optional Extras:  Various rafters, awning lights and heaters. LED: LED lights are very much the in thing now with decent light but very little battery consumption. Various designs from spot to strip as left, some awnings now come with built in LED strip holders. Rafters: Tension rafters increase stability & rigidity and add a little fabric support on longer awnings. Third Support Leg: To reinforce the longer lengths of awning tents in combination with a tension rafter. Not for Quickfit nor 2000. Groundsheets are plainly not required by everyone but our breathable and grass-friendly versions are allowed on most campsites whereas non-breathable ones may not be.

Mounted Height Reference:  Small = 2.15 - 2.30m : Mdm = 2.30 - 2.45m : Lge = 2.45 - 2.60m : 'SML' are often grouped together : XL = 2.60 - 2.75m : 2XL = 2.75 - 2.90m : 3XL = 2.90 - 3.10m : Front height is 1.85m for Sm/Mdm/Lge sizes then rises to 2.05m for XL size and 2.25m for 2XL and 3XL sizes. Due to roof slope you can't mix & match, so XL goes with XL etc. NB: When fitting for the first time it is well worth first erecting the front to be at the spec height to go with the rear height purchased - it will save a lot of bother later on.

First fitting:  Some small DIY adjustments to fitting are required on first assembly but not when in daily use, do note that we strongly recommend assembly at home some time before you go away!  Also due to the different roof slope on different height rooms it is well worth first erecting the front to be at the spec height to go with the rear height purchased - it will save a lot of bother later on.
